Recipe Swap: Burrito Bowl

I have fallen in love with something YUMMY! It started from a visit to The Tropical Chicken, a restaurant just up the street from my house. They have what’s called a “burrito bowl.” It’s a burrito with no tortilla, but it’s so much more than that! I loved it so much, I figured out how to do it at home. And now, I will be sharing that with you!


1 lb of ground beef

1 packet of burrito seasoning (Kroger is the only place I’ve found that sells this here on the South Side of Savannah)

1/2 serving of rice ( I use Uncle Ben’s Minute Rice and it’s YUMMY!)

Pick and choose the following:

diced tomatoes

shredded lettuce

sour cream

shredded cheese

sweet cole slaw

pico de gallo



Prepare the beef by following the directions on the burrito seasoning mix (usually a standard brown the beef, drain, add water and seasoning and simmer until most of the moisture is gone). Prepare the rice according to the directions on the package (for Minute Rice, bring the water to a boil, remove from heat, add rice and let it sit for 5 minutes). From there, just layer the choice of ingredients above on top of the beef in a bowl!

Then EAT!
